Nagarjun Jamacho Hike amidst the natural settings inside Nagarjun Forest Reserve in Kathmandu valley is an adventure-filled journey through the lush green forests of Nagarjun Hills toward the picturesque Buddhist monastery of Jamacho located atop the hill. The name ‘Nagarjun' is derived from the Hindu sage Nagarjun who resided in a cave on the hill to meditate. Such ancient roots and  Shivapuri hiking through serene trails in the divine lands offer not just a religious insight but a naturally wondrous trip as well.

Nagarjun Jamacho Hike begins upon your arrival in Kathmandu. You’ll be welcomed with a lavish welcome dinner in the evening. The next day, you’ll embark on a short journey toward the foothills of Nagarjun hill located in the northwest corner of Kathmandu valley. After a brief rest, you’ll start ascending the hill through Phulbari Gate.

Once at the top, you’ll explore the Jamacho Monastery (2128m) and enjoy the panorama of Everest (8848m), Ganesh, and Langtang Himal ranges. The Jamacho is revered by both Hindus and Buddhists for its religious significance to both religions.

The residence of the last monarch of Nepal also lies inside the Nagarjun Forest Reserve. A sprawling forest reserve, Nagarjun extended as a section of Shivapuri National Park in 2009. You’ll retrace your path and hike down the same way through the forested trail to Phulbari Gate. It’ll be easier to hike down than to go up, hence you’ll complete the descent sooner.

Once at Phulbari Gate, you’ll embark on an awaiting car and head back to the hotel. You can hike Nagarjun Jamacho Hiking mostly during the spring (March-Jun) and autumns (Sep-Nov) seasons for better weather and visibility. But we can do it all around the year.
