Shivapuri Nature Hiking begins at Kathmandu. After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll drive for about 20 minutes to Budhanikantha Temple in the northeast of Kathmandu. The 8km stretch of road goes through the bustling city towards the sparse settlements of Budhanikantha. After exploring the temple, you’ll begin hiking into the sprawling forested trail of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. The park was named after the local peak of Shivapuri (2732m) and was declared a national park in 2002. While ascending up the hill, you’ll get to witness the rich flora and fauna of the park. The park is also home to Nagi Gumba (2330m), a nunnery established for Buddhist nuns and foreigners visiting for meditation. The area lies in a transition zone between temperate and subtropical climate zone, hence, you’ll encounter lush forests at the lower belts than at the top.
The top of Shivapuri hill offers a magnificent panorama of the surrounding mountains including the Langtang massif. After lunch, you can stroll around the place catching the pristine sight of the park. Afterward, you’ll descend the same way back to Budhanikantha temple and catch your commute back to your hotel.
