Trip Overview

A beautiful trek in the periphery of hills surrounding Kathmandu, Helambu Trek is a short yet action-packed trekking experience that takes you on an epic ride of Helambu and parts of the Langtang region. Helambu in Nepal is also known for its heritage trekking experience as it takes you to the villages of some of the indigenous Himalayan tribes including the Hyolmo and Tamang communities. Explore their lifestyle and a unique culture heavily influenced by Tibetan beliefs. This trek helps unravel the hidden wilderness of the pristine Helambu region.

Setting off the trip with sightseeing on the Kathmandu day Tour.  We get a chance to visit the famous shrines of Swayambhunath and Pashupatinath.  And Boudhanath along with the famous palace square in Kathmandu. After an extensive heritage exploration of the capital city of Nepal.  The trip takes on the road to Sundarijal which is a jump point of Helambu Trek. We then head up the Shivapuri Wildlife reserve with a glimpse of what is to follow as thick forests engulf us and tribal folks appear along the route. It continues as we pass by Chisapani and Kutumsang.

Entering the famed Langtang National Park at Thadepati.  The Himalayas show up as we arrive at Tarkeghyang and then at Sermathang. The Langtang Lirung (7227m), Dorje Lakpa (6966m), and Shishapangma (8013m) are all visible en route. We wrap up the trip by descending to Melamchi Pul Bazaar and catching a ride back to Kathmandu. The Helambu is an exploration of lesser-known and underappreciated destinations in Nepal. Albeit short, the Helambu is sure to be an enchanting affair in the Langtang Vally Trek.  Like most adventure treks in Nepal, the best season to take on this trek is during spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November).

Itinerary

01: Arrival in Kathmandu – 1,350m
Namaste! Welcome to Nepal. The trip starts once you land at the busy Tribhuvan International Airport jam-packed with flyers. After the exchange of greetings, he’ll escort you to a private vehicle and transfer you to a pre-booked trip hotel. Checking in, freshen up, and get ready for a welcome event scheduled for the evening. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.
02: Preparation for the Trek and Kathmandu Sightseeing
The journey of exploration begins with a guided tour of Kathmandu city. With the day divided into two halves, the first half is reserved for a visit to Boudhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath temple. For the second half, we visit Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath. These important shrines amongst locals of Buddhist and Hindu religions, these shrines offer a glimpse of unwavering faith and cultural harmony while transferring spiritual aura onto fellow visitors. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.
03: Drive to Sundarijal & trek to Chisapani |2300m|: Drive 1 hour, Trek: 4-5 hours
Finally, we set off to the north of Kathmandu and crossed the Bagmati River that starts from Sundarijal, we arrive at the jump point. Start the trek from Sundarijal climbing up a flight of stairs through the Shivapuri National Park as you start the trek to Mulkharka. The trail runs along the ridge of a hill towards Chisapani. Overnight stay at Chisopani.
04: Trek from Chisopani to Kutumsang |2446m|: 6-7 hours
Waking up to magnificent views of snowcapped mountains and plummeting valleys, the day starts with a treacherous flight of stairs downhill along a sparse forest. The trail takes to Pati Bhanjyang another Tamang settlement along the way. Eventually, you arrive at Chipping and onto Thotundanda along a serpentine trail. As you overcome this section, you arrive at Kutumsang. Overnight stay at Kutumsang.
05: Trek from Kutumsang to Thadepati |3650m|: 5-6 hours
Start the day with a picturesque view of Langtang valley as you set out on a trail for the highest point of this trek, Thadepati pass (3650m). Further along the trail to Mangengoth, the snow-laden path challenges us with the increasing volume of snow. One thing guaranteed is gorgeous views of the fabulous mountain range as you take on yet another steep hike up to Thadepati pass. Overnight stay at Thadepati.
06: Trek to Tarkeghyang |2560m|: 6-7 hours
On a challenging day of this trek, you hike down along a dizzying trail with the valley plummeting way below. Cutting past a thick forest with lofty trees, moss-covered and divine, you reach Melamchi Gaon. As you cross the Melamchi Khola over a wooden suspension bridge, start a steep climb to the Tarke Ghyang along wooden battened stairs. Tarke Ghyang boasts to be the largest Sherpa settlement in the Helambu region with some of the grandest monasteries. Overnight stay at Tarkeghyang.
07: Trek to Sermathang |2,610m|: 3-4 hours
The trail takes past lush green forest in its glory before we skirt around the valley passing by the secluded Sherpa village of Ghangyul. As we descend gradually onto Sermathang, we enter the apple cultivation area. Helambu is famous for its apple production, one of the best in Nepal. And eventually, we arrive at another famous Sherpa settlement of this region, Sermathang. Overnight stay at Sermathang.
08: Trek to Melamchi Pul Bazaar: Drive to Kathmandu: 3-4 hrs trek/ 2 hr drive
Wrapping up the trek of the Helambu region we descend to Melamchi Pul Bazaar from where we catch a ride back to Kathmandu. Arriving at Melamchi Pul Bazaar, we are greeted by a cluster of teahouses and a bus stop. Resting a bit, we catch our ride back to Kathmandu. From Melamchi Pul Bazaar, you’ll be transferred back to the hotel. Check-in and call it a day having trekked for the best part of this tour. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.
09: Departure
Bidding farewell to this beautiful land of Himalayas, having experienced some of them at touching distance, you fly back to your destination. Ace Vision Treks & Tours, Travel Partner will arrive at your hotel and transfer you to the airport exactly 3 hours prior to your scheduled flight. Take the time during your transfer to inquire about future trips and exchange contacts to keep in touch.
